This soap is built around one of the forest’s oldest protective substances: pine pitch. The resin used in this batch was harvested from private land here in the Kootenays, where pine trees produce thick, aromatic pitch to seal wounds and defend themselves from insects and microbes. For generations, people have noticed the same qualities and used pine resins in salves, soaps, and traditional remedies for the skin.
In soap, pine pitch adds a distinctive character that goes beyond scent. Resin contains a complex mix of natural terpenes and protective plant compounds, and when incorporated into soap it creates a bar that feels deeply cleansing and grounding. The addition of yellow clay brings a gentle mineral richness that helps create a smooth, dense lather while giving the bar its earthy forest tone.
The scent is unmistakably woodland. Pine and cedar open bright and green, like sap warming in sunlight, while vetiver adds a deeper root-like note that lingers quietly underneath. It smells like a slow walk through the forest after rain—resinous bark, warm soil, and clean mountain air.
